Letter B

Arielle (mommy):  Like most one and a half year olds O seems to love words that begin with B; bubble, book, ball, baby...these are easy first words to say.  There are so many great activities for B because there are so many kid friendly words that begin with B.

We hunted for B words around the house and as Lil found the ojects, we talked about the initial /b/ sound (when she found an object that didn't make the /b/ sound we talked about what it would sound like if it did, she handed me a pillow and I told her if it started with B we would have to call it a billow).

We had O practice saying the B words as we found them, then O held the items and Lil took pictures.

Later we will print the pictures and make "Our B Book."  I love making books with predictable text to help build confidence in early readers.

"Snow" writing: For writing practice Lil wrote B and b using flour on a cookie sheet (you can also use salt or sugar).

After I let her play in the flour for a few minutes, I got her letter cards out and showed her how to write B and b in the flour.

To go with our A shaped Alligator we made a B shaped Bee for our ABC book.

We also ended up working on some math concepts as I had Lil measure and cut the black strips to fit on the bee.

Being a mommy, I'm always with my kids and we can learn 7 days a week.  Since Cynthia is a Nanny, she has some well deserved time off (especially deserving today as it's her birthday, Happy birthday Cynthia!).

We will have to wait until Monday to see what Letter B activities she has in store for the twins.  I can't wait!

Here it is!!!

Cynthia (nanny): To work on the letter B, we did a number of fun activities.
1. First, we made our letter B page for our ABC book by gluing printed pictures of recognizable items beginning with the b sound. Later, we will use binder rings to keep the pages together.

2. We read The Berenstains' B book which uses alliteration to teach the b sound.

3. Letter B Mystery Bag: I collected items from the playroom that started with b. (Older kids could hunt for the items themselves) then the girls took turns drawing out an item and naming it. They had fun with game and wanted to play once more. After we were done, I had them re name the b objects as they pout them back in the bag.

4. Sang "Who Let the Bs Out?" (Tune of who let the dogs out) Who Let the Bs out? B-B-B-B-B (b sound not the name)
