Sorting: By Color

Cynthia (Nanny): Today I did a simple straw sorting activity with the twins.  They were successful in sorting the colored straws into plastic cups.

Arielle (Mommy): I did the same project today with Lil and O.  Lil completed the task in seconds and O just wanted to get on the table and topple the straw filled cups.

Guru moment: Next time to make the game more appropriate for O, we should just let him put straws in cups.  To make it more challenging for Lil, we can add a variety of materials (Pom poms, chenille sticks, cubes) to the straws so Lil can sort by attributes in addition to color.

Life is full of successes and failures! :)

Nanny Follow up:  free play or transition activity.  Since this activity was already introduced, today was a great opportunity for the twins to work on their own as I got lunch ready.  They started out with the sorting activity and ended with a wave of creative inspiration as the cups turned into drums and the straws to drumsticks!  And we thought we were the "guru"?  Nope, it's the kids!
